In our pre-apprenticeship course, an emphasis is placed on providing hands on, practical training wherever possible and will develop the skills and knowledge you need to have a successful career as a carpenter in the domestic housing industry or commercial construction area.

You will learn how to use basic carpentry tools, power tools and equipment, read and interpret plans, handle carpentry materials, ceiling frames and flooring systems.

The training is provided to our students by teachers that have been firstly apprentices themselves then moved on to become qualified tradesman themselves and still maintain industry currency by working with other contractors or running their own subcontracting businesses.

The qualification requires the successful completion of 18 units of competency which includes 13 core and 5 electives. The units of competency currently shown in the table below indicate a possible direction. The units may change during the pre-training interview to better suit the type of work you undertake.

On successful completion of this course students will receive the qualification 22338VIC Certificate II in Building and Construction Pre-apprenticeship which is a nationally recognised qualification within Australia.

Students who do not fully complete the qualification but who are successful in completing a number of the units of competency will receive a statement of attainment for those units.

A person having successfully completed 22338VIC Certificate II in Building and Construction Pre-apprenticeship may seek employment in the following field as an:

Education Pathway

After achieving the 22338VIC Certificate II in Building and Construction Pre-Apprenticeship, candidates may be eligible to undertake the CPC30211 Certificate III in Carpentry.
