This course is designed to meet the needs of builders and managers of small-medium building businesses. A builder is the person who coordinates the construction of a building taking responsibility for the overall completion of the job, including selected contractors, overseeing the work and its quality, and liaising with the client.

This course, together with your hands-on industry experience, will assist you to meet the requirements of the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) to become a registered building practitioner in Victoria.

The training is provided to our students by trainers and assessors that are qualified tradesman themselves and still maintain industry currency by working with other contractors or running their own subcontracting businesses, many holding Builders Licences themselves. We only allow you to be taught by qualified professionals within their fields.

All students must be aged 18 years or over at the time of applying for admission to Platinum Institute Australia.

Education Level
A satisfactory completion of studies equivalent to an Australian Year 11 qualification.
Where a student cannot demonstrate an equivalent to an Australian Year 11 qualification, PIA will consider the application on a case-by-case basis. Consideration will be given to areas such as but not limited to; age, previous employment and life skills.

English Language Level
IELTS band score of overall 5.5 (Academic or General) or equivalent in line with the Department of Education and Department of Home Affairs regulations.

Language, Literacy and Numerously Level
All students must undertake a language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) regardless of English Language scores, PIA wants to ensure that students get the most out of their training. Where students are unsuccessful on their LLN, PIA will not be able to progress with the enrolment into this course.

After completion of the General English or English for the Construction Industry the student can be re-assessed to then determine their eligibility for entry into the course.

Digital Capability
Basic digital literacy (ability to communicate and access information through digital technologies like internet platforms, social media, search engines, emails and basic use of MS office products).

Digital Hardware
Students will be required to provide their own device to undertake this course, Platinum Institute Australia recommends a Laptop Computer with Internet Access and up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Students will also be required to have a mobile device capable of capturing Photo and video.

The qualification requires the successful completion of 16 units of competency which includes 13 core and 3 electives. The units of competency currently shown in the table below indicate a possible direction. The units may change during the pre-training interview to better suit the type of work you undertake.

On successful completion of this course students will receive the qualification CPC40120 Certificate IV in Building and Construction which is a nationally recognised qualification within Australia.

Students who do not fully complete the qualification but who are successful in completing a number of the units of competency will receive a statement of attainment for those units.

A person having successfully completed CPC40120 Certificate IV in Building and Construction may seek employment in the following roles:

• Domestic Builder Licence
• Construction Manager
• Building Estimator
• Domestic Building Supervisor

Education Pathway

After achieving the CPC40120 Certificate IV in Building and Construction, candidates may be eligible to undertake the
CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building).
